October 2007
Changing Leaves of Fall
Dear Friends of the CBBF:
The CBBF once again hosted three national events in 2007, all outstanding as far as quality and quantity of athletes, as well as the promotion of the events by our national promoters, Cabel McElderry, Jim Morris, John Dirks and Norm Jacobs.
Our first national event was held in June 16th in Toronto, Ontario.
This event was again a doping controlled event, with WADA rules and guidelines provided by the CCES and its IOC laboratories.
The majority of classes which are provided at the IFBB World Championships compete, with only the junior women’s classes not competing.
Over 70 athletes competed for the numerous class titles.
Once again all test provided came out negative.
Many of this year’s winners have competed over the years and many being victorious again.
Such as Johanna Dejager, the Silver medal winner at the 2006 IFBB Women’s Worlds. In Santa Susanna, this year Johanna took a 4th place, with the competition at the Worlds being of top quality.
The Women’s Team Canada was represented by a top quality team of seven individuals. Debbie Karpenko our Chief Judging Official took part in judging the amateur event as well as the IFBB Pro event, which was held in conjunction with the IFBB Women’s Worlds.
Canada took 3 of the top 6 positions, at the IFBB Pro Fitness event, with Myriam Capes taking second place, Stephanie Worsfold taking third place and Sandra Wickham taking sixth place.
The Men’s Team Canada will be represented by one athlete this year, bantamweight, Sonny Cesar.
Due to illnesses, work and school commitments the previous mentioned items did not allow the time for many of our top athletes to travel to the beautiful country of the Republic of Korea and the wonderful event being held in JeJu City.
The athletes who will be representing the Junior/Master/Grand Master Team Canada are once again high in numbers and quality. With Tom Heffner returning for a third time.
Our CBBF Vice President Karen MacLean will be the official CBBF representative at this year event held in Budapest, Hungary.
The CBBF Canadian Figure and Fitness Championships, was again held in Edmonton, Alberta, this year on June 30th, with over 80 Canadian athletes competing for three IFBB Pro Cards, from all the nine provinces of Canada.
One IFBB Pro card provided to the Overall Fitness athlete Marnie Holley from Ontario, who also competed at the Women’s Worlds and took a 4th place position.
The second IFBB Pro card provided to the Overall Figure athlete Jeni Briscoe, from British Columbia and the last IFBB Pro card provided to the Master Figure athlete Ceeanna Kerr, from Saskatchewan.
The final national event the CBBF Canadian Bodybuilding Championships was held on August 18th in Edmonton, Alberta.
This event provided the opportunity for over 160 athletes to compete for individual IFBB Pro Cards in the Overall Women’s division, Overall Men’s division and the Master Men’s division.
Our Overall Men’s winner has competed for many years and brought a total package to this year’s event.
Vince Wawryk is from Saskatchewan, the Overall Master Men’s winner from Ontario is Vincent Liu and the Overall Women’s champion from British Columbia is Nadia Nardi.
Each year we provide the opportunity for Canadian athletes from sea to sea to compete for IFBB Pro Cards and for the opportunity to attend the IFBB World Championships.
We are pleased that Rafael Santonja is carrying on the leadership of the IFBB after many years under the leadership of our countries favourite son, Dr. Ben Weider.
We wish the best of luck to athletes from around the world at the 2007 IFBB World Championships, at amateur events still to be held at locations in Canada and hope to see many of you again next year at the locations in 2008.
Sincerely,
|
